Mana HATN projects that have been completed In the village of Mana, access to health care was limited to those who could afford the fee and travel long distances. The women of Mana would all too often give birth in their huts or on the roadside while trying to reach the hospital. HATN completed construction of a Community Health Centre and Maternity Centre (pictured above) staffed by a doctor, nurse, pharmacist and two midwives. A new water tower was installed to service the centre. HATN assisted the community to establish a community board and to ensure they would be successful in running the centre, training was provided by a private health group. In spite of consultation and pharmacy costs that are affordable for the village, the centre no longer requires financial support from HATN. Other projects in Mana include programs to supply mosquito nets, nutritional supplements (above) to combat malnutrition, financial support for teachers’ salaries, night classes for women, construction of a girl’s school and supply and distribution of water filters. HATN supplied water filters ensure clean water for over 100 families. Almost a decade later 65% remain in use.
