HATN Canada
Greg Madeley
Founder, Executive Director
In 1994, while working full time at the Hospital for Sick Children and juggling three children, Greg and Donnalea Madeley founded Hands Across the Nations in the basement of their home. With the help of some awesome neighbours & friends, HATN started to move forward to what it is today: a group of dedicated women and men serving the communities of Bolivia, Mali and Gambia.
Cathy Fuchs
Director
Cathy has been a volunteer and Director with HATN for over a decade. She has traveled to Mali, Gambia and Bolivia on several team trips. She is passionate about helping the communities we serve with a special heart for the children.
Joanne Patriarche
Director
Joanne is Vice President, Human Resources for Apotex Inc. HATN was initially appealing to Joanne because it’s an organization run solely by volunteers and focused on self-sustaining initiatives supporting clean water, health care and education. That impression was reinforced by her trip to The Gambia in February 2020 when she was able to see in person the positive impact that HATN’s work is having on the people of Jammeh Kebbeh.
Chris Fuchs
Treasurer
Chris has been a long time supporter of HATN and has traveled to Mali, Gambia and Bolivia on several team trips. Always willing to travel and lend a helping hand to HATN projects with particular interest in our next community adventure.
Paul Agueci
Ambassador
Paul has traveled to HATN projects in Bolivia, Mali and The Gambia a total of 19 times. Former HATN Board member and active volunteer since 1999 with HATN, Paul was named HATN Ambassador in 2019 at the Great Gourmet Give. Paul carries this title with a great deal of honour and pride. Paul believes in the projects of HATN because he has witnessed them firsthand and understands the challenges of volunteering given the obstacles he has faced in his life.
Mark McMahon
Director
With more than 35 years of experience, Mark has had a long career in the investment field both as a Mutual Fund Manager and an Investment Advisor for individuals. For almost as long, he has been a volunteer for Variety Club, been a Big Brother, adopted two children from Russia and sat on the Board of the Adoption agency for 20 years. He is an advocate for those without a voice and a long time supporter of HATN events.
HATN Abroad

The Gambia In-Country Agents
Baraye Sow, David Traore
Malian In-Country Agents
In addition to HATN Canada, HATN has local subsidiaries in both The Gambia (BULLOLU) and Mali (TEGEW). They are responsible for coordinating our projects on the ground. These in-country agents are vital to our success: they research and implement projects, maintain constant communication with the communities we assist, and coordinate trips for Canadian volunteers.
